Abstract

For the successful course and result of the fodder conservation process by ensiling, several essential conditions must be met. It is primarily a quick creation anaerobic environment and subsequent prevention of air penetration into the silage. The faster the initial stage of fermentation takes place and is formed sufficiently acidic environment, the silage tends to be of better quality and is produced with lower losses. However, once air gets into the silage, it starts to spoil. Dry matter and energy losses in both cases, they increase proportionally with the time and intensity of oxygen exposure, which is the driving force for the development of undesirable aerobic microorganisms.
