Abstract

Adherence to the principles of good husbandry practice is the basis for maintaining good animal health. Biosecurity is a management strategy aimed at minimizing the possibility of pathogens (etiological agents) penetrating the farm and spreading them on the farm. Biosecurity, as an integral part of health/flock management, is a prerequisite for the production of both healthy breeding material as well as healthy and biologically valuable raw materials and food of animal origin as one of the important animals achieving economic profitability of livestock and their competitiveness on a national and international scale. At the same time, biosecurity is an effective tool for reducing the consumption of antimicrobials in livestock and wildlife, with a consequent reduction in the emergence and spread of antimicrobial resistance in the animal and human population. The publication provides comprehensive guidance for the development of an individual biosecurity plan with a reduction in the probability of the potential risk of transmission of pathogens, both within a single farm and between farms.
