Abstract

The work is focused on evaluating the possibility of reducing the development of resistance to antimicrobials by following the principles of good breeding practice with emphasis on ensuring adequate levels of immunity of young animals, optimization of breeding environment, nutrition and watering, stress minimizing and potential risk of animal exposure to pathogens. The introduction and strict adherence to the principles of biosecurity leads to a reduction in morbidity and mortality, and thus to the reduction of the amount of antimicrobials used on farms with a consequent improvement in production and reproduction indicators and at the end, the economic profitability of farmers. Vaccination will be another factor in reducing of the amount of antimicrobials used on farms in the near future.
